Beas Kund Trek History

Also called Vyas Kund, Beas Kund is a lake at an elevation of 12,772 ft. It sits in the lap of the Himalayan peaks and is taken care of by the melting waters from the surrounding glacial masses. The power source of this lake is a water stream that streams down the mountains; is joined by various rivers on the way, and transforms into the Beas river, named after the Beas Kund.

According to the locals, the lake is named after Rishi Veda Vyasa, the creator of the epic Mahabharata. It is said that he used to bath in the lake and came here for mediation.

Where Is Beas Kund Trek?

Beas Kund is located in the Dhauladhar range of Himachal Pradesh. Bakar Thach meadow lies at a distance of 3 km from the Kund. The Dhauladhar range is the lesser part of the great Himalayas. The highest peak is Hanuman Tibba ( at a height of 5982m ), which is viewed from Beas Kund. Beas Kund is the origin of the Beas river.

How To Reach Beas Kund Trek

By Air:

Chandigarh is the nearest international airport. At about 50km south of Manali and 10 km south of Kullu town, there is Bhuntar tower which is the nearest airport to Manali. You can opt-in accordingly.  

By Road:

Manali is well communicated with major Indian cities like Delhi, Ambala, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Haridwar, Shimla, Dharamsala, and Dalhousie by roads. There is the availability of regular buses between these stations. Hence traveling by road is not a difficulty. 

By Rail:

The nearest railway station to Manali is Joginder Nagar. It is situated at a distance of 166kms. Chandigarh and Pathankot are other optional railway stations you can choose among.

Best Time to Visit Beas Kund Trek

From mid-May to July-end is a great time to go for the Beas Kund journey. Try to avoid August and the beginning of September when heavy rainstorm lashes these areas of the Himalayas. Mid-September to October-end is chilly here yet a fair time. Experienced trekkers do this trek during winter when a feets of snow covers the whole area. In any case, this is not advisable for new trekkers as it’s very tricky and may be dangerous.

Day 01: Delhi – Manali

Travel to Delhi via train or via air. From Delhi board an AC Volvo coach in the evening to reach Manali and enjoy your overnight journey. Equip yourself well with all essentials for the journey. Don’t forget to take medicines also in case any emergency pops up. Keep having a well-balanced diet also. 

Day 02: Manali – Solang Nallah – Dhundi ( 3150 mts/10332 ft )

You arrive early morning in Manali. Behold the beauty around you and breathe the fresh air until your cab arrives. Then you will be taken to the hotel so you can vent out your tiredness from the journey and get acclimatized to the environment. Have a light food intake and pack your essentials. From Manali, you will have to drive to Solang Nalla and then trail off to Dhundi for further trek adventure. Camp overnight at Dhundi. Eat your dinner and enjoy the campfire. 

Day 03: Dhundi – Bakarthach ( 3300 mts/10824 ft )

Wake up to the beauty of the Dhundi. Today you will start your trek to the valley. Click beautiful pictures and enjoy the scenic beauties along the way. Camp and dine at beautiful Bakarthach. Bakarthach which originally means’ shepherd’s field’ is a favorite spot to the nomadic tribe of shepherds called Gaddis. You will behold iconic windswept meadows and perfect scenic beauties. The walk from Bakarthach is almost flat until Moraines. 

Day 04: Bakarthach – Beas Kund ( 3650 mts/11972 ft ) – Bakarthach 5 hrs

After having your breakfast, now it will be a trek over moraine to our most awaited spot, Beas Kund.upon reaching Beas Kund you will know more about it historical importance and about great Rishi Vyas. the Kund is protected by an igloo-like stone structure. Spend some memorable moments here. You will witness the beauty of Hanuman Tibba peak, friendship peak, Ladakhi peaks. Now you will trek back to our camp. Spend the night at the Bakar Thach. Sleep in the lap of mother nature and cherish the rhythm of nature.

Day 05: Bakarthach – Dhundi – Manali – Delhi – 3hrs 

Today morning you will trek your way back to Dhundi, then drive back to Manali and board the ac Volvo coach for Delhi at 16:30 hrs. Take all the adventure inside your memories and camera before you leave the place.

Day 06: Way Back To Home
