Travelling is a peace in itself, for a long trip or a few days. I got three days in the hands after the last semester, I became anxious for travel, but in that hand only three days. So I did not go anywhere. I thought, enjoy the nearby sea.
Digha located 183.2 kilometres away from Kolkata. The beach is famous all over Bengal. From Kolkata there is not only train, bus service, car service are also available. If you talk about the time, it takes about three and a half hours on the train and the bus takes about three hours to the destination of Digha.
From the Howrah station, I catch 6.35am Tamrolipta Express and then when clock hands touched almost 10am in the clock ;I give my foot on digha station.” Ah, earth, how beautiful you are!!”
If we see the history of it, originally there was a place called Beerkul, where Digha lies today. This name was referred in Warren Hastings’s letters (1780) as Brighton of the East.An English businessman John Frank Snaith started living here in 1923 and his writings provided a good exposure to this place. He convinced West Bengal Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy to develop this place to be a beach resort.
Now let’s talk about those places that overwhelmed my mind in those two days.
MARC – Marine aquarium cum regional centre – is a major tourist attraction for all Digha visitors. It has the largest inbuilt aquarium in India. The aquarium has three kinds of creatures: species of conservative importance, ‘local and curious’ species and freshwater species.
These species include sea anemones, lobsters, sharks, rays, butterfly fishes, sea snakes, horse shoe crabs and a bunch of other not-so-commonly-heard-of organisms.
Udaipur Beach, An unexplored virgin sea beach located in the border of Orissa is three KM from Digha Station. The solitary beach away from crowd and busy city life. Dotted with dense, tall casuarina trees along the shore can make you feel that this is your own beach. This uninhabited beach is around three KM long and lies between New Digha and Talsari. There are very few fisherman huts around who also runs makeshift stalls in the beach and sell fresh cooked sea fish.
New Digha Beach,Digha is a small beach town located in West Bengal. One of the most famous beaches in this city is the New Digha beach. Lying about 2 kilometers away from the Old Deegha beach, this destination is a man-made attraction. It’s preferred by tourists owing to its easier accessibility, larger expanse, and lesser crowd density.
Shankarpur Beach, 15 km from Digha, Shankarpur is a virgin beach with a lovely view of the beach surrounded by local fish boats and rows of tress giving visitors the perfect Kodak moment. Near the beach, there are also a few temples in Shankarpur.
The cost for two day is approx Rs 2500 per head.If you want to travel and if you are a seafront then Digha is your best address.
