Kedarkantha is a mountain peak located in Uttarakhand. It is the mountain peak of the Himalayas. Kedarkantha is also known as the land of Lord Shiva and has a history linked to it. It is located within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarkashi district. The location is pretty amazing where you can imbibe the pleasant view of flora and fauna at the summit which lies at an elevation of 3810 meters.

History of Kedarkantha
Kedarkantha means the Throat of Lord Shiva. As the name suggests, the place has a history linked to the Lord Shiva. It is believed that after Mahabharata, the Pandavas went to Himalayas to seek the blessings of lord Shiva. Lord Shiva disguised himself as buffalo and Bheem stood on two rocks while the disguised buffalo did not pass under him. Later he had a fight with the buffalo and ripped apart it into five pieces where the Pandavas built temples later.
These temples were constructed in order to worship Lord Shiva. So in mythology, the place holds much importance to the people in India.
Sankri village is also known as the trekking hub as it is a route to the paradise of Himalayas for every trekker. It is 200 km from Dehradun at the base of Kedarkantha. Sankri not only provides you the beautiful Himalayan valley view but also gives a chance to the travelers to indulge in the local culture and have an insight of the people living in the mountains.
Juda ka Talab
Juda ka Talab is a lake located 4 km from Sankri village. It is among the few of the lake which is located at such high altitude. The lake provides a mesmerizing view of the Himalayan landscapes. It also offers as the camping sites for the trekkers on the Kedarkantha trek.
It is believed that once when Lord Shiva opened the locks of his hair, the water dropped from the hair formed into this lake. The lake is completely frozen during winter.
The Kedarkantha Trek
Kedarkantha is actually well famous for its trek. Trekkers around the country seek for this trek as it offers an amazing experience of the nature along with the thrilling trek experience. Every year many trekkers carry out this trek.
The trek is for 6 days and the difficulty level for the trek is moderately difficult. The trek starts from Sankri village at the base of Kedarkantha and takes you to Juda ka Talab and to the Kedarkantha base camp while finshes by reaching back to Sankri.

The weather of Kedarkantha varies according to the weather. The winter here is beautiful with the snowfall and the place looks like a paradise. While the summer is warm and long and have warm days and cool nights. Overall the weather and temperature of Kedarkantha is moderate and comfortable.

The best time to visit Kedarkantha is during March-May. During this time, the winter wouldn’t be much severe and with the start of the summer it is a good time to start your trek and enjoy the mountains in the pleasant weather.
How To Reach Kedarkantha?
You can reach Kedarkantha from Dehradun. It takes around 8-10 hours drive from Dehradun. Many buses are also available to reach Kedarkantha. Driving is also a good option. You can also reach Kedarkantha from Delhi following the land route.
